The cayenne pepper hosts a high concentration of capsaicin, which has an ability to help kill prostate cancer cells. Scientists in one 2007 study, for example, found that capsaicin slowed the growth of prostate cancer cells and prompted apoptosis, sometimes referred to as “cell suicide.” Investigators at Nottingham University suggest capsaicin kills cancer cells because it attacks the energy-producing part of cells, the mitochondria. Cayenne supplements are available, but they should be used with caution because they can cause stomach distress. Therefore, it may be preferable to make cayenne a part of your diet rather than take supplements. More on cayenne and cancer
