Pantothenic acid imagePantothenic acid, also known as vitamin B5, is used in the production of coenzyme A (CoA) and 4-phosphopntetheine, both of which are involved in more than 100 metabolic reactions in the body, including metabolism of macronutrients (fats, proteins, carbohydrates), the breakdown of toxins and drugs in the liver, and the synthesis of steroid hormones, lipids, hemoglobin, and melatonin. Pantothenic acid has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential, which is why some men take this vitamin supplement to treat prostatitis. However, there are no published scientific studies that show pantothenic acid boosts prostate health.

Vitamin B5 is a necessary nutrient for overall health. The RDA is 10 mg, and the vitamin is plentiful in dark green vegetables, meat, and eggs.
