Ayurvedic healing is an ancient system based on the concept that disease is caused by an imbalance in the body and/or karmic disturbances such as having poor relationships or failing to fulfill your life’s purpose.
On a more physical level, in the case of prostate health, contributing factors include dehydration, a sedentary lifestyle, fasting, eating too many bitter and pungent foods, consuming too much alcohol and caffeine, overuse of the sexual organs, not eating enough foods and spices that can purify the urine, and not urinating when the feeling strikes.
The Ayurvedic answer to how you can protect your prostate? Drink enough water, get out of your seat and move around frequently, avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks, and so on. Foods and spices that purify the urine include sweet juice fruits (stewed apples, prunes, raisins, figs) and turmeric.
Two other ways to promote a healthy prostate are yoga and massaging your hands and feet with oils and certain herbs. Yoga postures can increase circulation in the pelvic area and are also an excellent way to reduce stress and improve flexibility. For massage, the recommended oils include jojaba and sesame, the essential oils of lemon and sweet orange, and herbs such as winter cherry, white sandalwood, cardamom, Indian sarsaparilla, Orchis mascula, Tribulus terrestris, and sacred lotus. Some athletes use Tribulus terrestris orally because they claim it improves their performance. The herb is also used for erectile dysfunction and low sex drive.
